Tour de Yorkshire Teams Unveiled

With just over a month to go until the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire, organisers have revealed a record 36 men’s and women’s teams will compete in the race, up from 33 in 2016. For the first time the number of women’s and men’s teams taking part will be the same.

The men’s race – which takes place between 28-30 April – will include nine Tour de France teams.

The Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 29 April also boasts a stellar field with a record number of 18 teams set to compete.

Axeon Hagens Berman Opens U.S. Schedule In San Dimas

The Axeon Hagens Berman Cycling Team gets its domestic racing calendar underway Friday with the first event on USA Cycling's new American Road Calendar, the San Dimas Stage Race.

Already winners of three races on the road this season, the three-day, three-stage race in San Dimas, California, will be Axeon Hagens Berman's first competition as a team in its home country.

Several other riders on Axeon Hagens Berman will be competing Sunday at the Under 23 edition of Gent-Wevelgem, but with their national teams.

New American Road Calendar Announced

Twelve races have been designated as part of a new American Road Calendar, USA Cycling announced this week.

The new calendar as an effort to provide these events a clear pathway to future U.S. Pro Road Tour inclusion.

The series could expand to high-level regional calendars throughout the country that are more accessible to smaller elite teams.

Greg Van Avermaet has won the E3 Harelbeke, his second victory of the season.

The rider of BMC was the fastest in the three-men final sprint and beat Philippe Gilbert and Oliver Naesen. Favorite Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) was involved in a crash and abandoned. 

“It’s really nice to win a classic that matters, and for me it’s the first time in E3,” said Van Avermaet. “It gives me all the confidence for Flanders.”

Spaniard claims sensational victory after attacking Froome and Contador on the final climb to Lo Port. Alejandro Valverde was again unstoppable on the Cat-1 climb of Lo Port, end of stage five in the Volta a Catalunya.

The Movistar Team's GC hope got back to the race leader on Friday, three days after being neglected the jersey following a controversial, collective one-minute penalty after Banyoles' team time trial.

Tejay van Garderen lost over a minute and stands in 6th place overall.

BMC Racing Team's Tejay Van Garderen leads the Volta a Catalunya after 4 stages.

Cofidis' Nacer Bouhanni won the final sprint after the stage was shortened due to snow.

Chris Froome, Gaudu, Valverde and Soler attacked on second-category Tudo del Puig, hoping to get away but the Sprinters teams reeled them in with 5 kms to go.

The first official race for Holowesko|Citadel p/b Hincapie Sportswear is the Joe Martin Stage race in Fayetteville, Arkansas from March 30th - April 2nd.

The 4 day stage race features a Time Trial, 2 road races and a final criterium. The lineup includes Robin Carpenter the overall GC winner at the 2016 Tour of Alberta, Oscar Clark, Ty Magner, Joe Lewis, Miguel Bryon and new team members Ruben Companioni, John Murphy and TJ Eisenhart

The Joe Martin Stage Race will celebrate something very special in 2017 - 40 consecutive years of amateur racing.

The  cobbled climbs took their toll on the peloton which included the the Kwaremont and Paterberg.

Yves Lampaert took victory after the Belgian Quick-Step rider solo'ed away from a four man break that included teammate Philippe Gilbert. Astana's Alexey Lutsenko rounded up the podium.

Quick-Step Floors produced some exciting, nail-biting, racing at the start of the Classics season.

Alejandro Valverde claims 101st career victory atop La Molina, clinches 10th success for Blues in 2017 by beating top Volta GC riders.

The 23-year-old local launched one of the final attacks that set up the finish for his leader, who now sits back in full contention after the one-minute penalty the race jury put on all his team-mates this very morning.

Thanks to the 10-second bonus and small splits in the finale, Valverde now ranks 4th overall, 45" behind race leader Tejay Van Garderen.

The familiar bergs and cobbles of Flanders, with the first appearance this spring of the Oude-Kwaremont and the Paterberg with 30km to go. At 200km, the race is often selective but doesn't always manage to break up the bunch.

Debusschere will be looking to retain his title and Vanmarcke, Degenkolb, Matthews, Demare, Coquard and others will hope it comes down to a sprint.

The Quick Step team is looking really strong, featuring Gilbert, sprint talent Gaviria, Stybar, Terpstra and others.

Stage 3 offers GC riders another chance to shine with two first-category climbs including the final ascent of La Molina at 1,692 meters high.

Volta a Catalunya changes race leader again, BMC awarded the TTT win. Jose Joaquin Rojas was initially designated as Volta a Catalunya new leader, but was penalized three minutes for pushing teammate Nelson Oliveira back into the rotation.
