Mikel Landa and Geraint Thomas lead Sky into Giro d Italia

Mikel Landa and Geraint Thomas will lead Team Sky in the 100th edition of the Giro d’Italia, which starts next week in Sardinia (5th May) and ends in Milan on Sunday 28th May.

Both Mikel and Geraint are coming into the race in excellent form.

Following medical examinations after crashing out of the Tour de Romandie on stage 2 today, it has been confirmed that Warren Barguil from Team Sunweb has suffered a fracture of his pelvis.

The unfortunate news comes after a fall during the tough stage hit by snow and heavy rain in Switzerland where Barguil fell and was unable to continue.

Barguil will stay in Switzerland for a few days before returning home to France.

Miserable winter-like conditions plagued the peloton for stage two at the Tour de Romandie resulting in a frozen peloton zapped of impetus to catch the last remnants of the day's breakaway.

While Stefan Küng (BMC) won a two-up battle for the stage honors, Fabio Felline arrived with the bunch 20 seconds later and sprinted to 6th place.

After a race of cohesive teamwork in atrocious weather, Trek-Segafredo successfully defended yellow for another day.

Caleb Ewan is looking forward to making his return to racing at the Tour de Yorkshire on Friday and is hoping to produce a stellar performance as he heads into a key phase of the season.

The 22-year-old Australian will be extra motivated to prosper as well after being narrowly denied victory by Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) on the opening stage into Settle last season.

The Tour de Yorkshire will be Ewan’s first race since completing the single-day Ghent-Wevelgem last month and he is hoping to sharpen his condition before taking part in the Giro d’Italia – one of cycling’s three Grand Tours – which starts in Sardinia on Friday 5 May.

Thousands pay their respects to Scarponi

Around five thousands mourners attended the funeral of cyclist Michele Scarponi in his home town of Filottrano on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old was killed when he was hit by a van close to his home during a training ride on Saturday, just days after he had finished fourth overall in the Tour of the Alps.

Members of Scarponi's Astana team, led by Fabio Aru, were joined by others including former team-mate Vincenzo Nibali and world champion Peter Sagan at his funeral.

The Italian was the only one able (along with Dowsett) to get under the six minutes mark with a time of 5m 57s of the 162 riders, who took to the start in Aigle.

It was his first triumph in a time trial stage and his is second victory of the season after the trophy of Laigueglia.

The favorites had a very disappointing first day, except for Ion Izagirre who was 12 seconds down.

Bloodied and bruised French cyclist Yoann Offredo was assaulted by knife and baseball bat wielding attackers while on a training ride.

He sustained a broken nose, severely bruised ribs, cuts and bruises all over his body.

Offredo, rides for Belgian team Wanty and posted these comments and images onto facebook.
