VIDEO: Michael Valgren escapes serious injury after crash in La Fleche Wallonne

Michael Valgren from Astana crashed with 67 km to go at Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday.

It was a terrible fall, the Astana rider hit his head and face, and suffered bruises to his right arm and leg.

Sitting by the roadside not knowing what had happened, race officials quickly sent Valgren to hospital of the city of Huy for a detailed medical examination.

After 100km of racing on the 2nd sector of the day, Sector 28, Viesly to Quievy, 1.8 km, 3 riders had a 47s lead, Wallays, Martinez and Delage.

The Peloton came into this sector at full gas, chasing the break.

All the favorites had come to the front, causing severe panic in the Peloton.

It was only a matter of time before this happened.

A driver in Ross, California, is scheduled to appear before Marin Superior Court in early April after cyclist hands over video to the police.

Matthew Marshall Engle, 55, will appear on April 4th in Marin Superior Court after he was caught on camera in February backing his car up near cyclist Jan Weissenberger, blaring his horn and shouting “I’ll get a shotgun and shoot your head off!”.

He could face a prison sentence of five to 90 days and a fine of up to $1,000.

With Peter’s challenge for the Maglia Rossa all but complete, having supplemented his points with a second place on yesterday’s stage, it was supposed to be an uneventful stage for the UCI World Champion, with the aim of just getting through the day.

However, just a few minutes into his run, the Slovak BORA - hansgrohe rider had to make a sharp detour from the course as a dog and its walker crossed in front of him.

It was testament to Peter’s amazing bike handling skills that he was able to make his way onto the pavement to avoid a crash. Coming in 72nd position with a time of 12:37, the red points jersey was confirmed as his.
