Quintana Confirms Giro-Tour Double Attempt
Quintana Confirms Giro-Tour Double Attempt

Nairo Quintana will be at the start of the 100th Giro d'Italia.

On the way to the biggest challenge of his season, the Tour de France, the Colombian rider will be back in the Corsa Rosa, which already saw him coming victorious through his maiden and, so far, only attempt to conquer pink, back in 2014.

Quintana will thus aim for the Giro-Tour double for the first time in his career.

The Colombian will not defend his 2016 La Vuelta a España title.

Steven Kruijswijk will be LottoNL-Jumbo's best bet for the Giro d'Italia and Robert Gesink will ride for stage wins in the Tour de France.

LottoNL-Jumbo's third big card to play in 2017 is youngster Dylan Groenewegen.

Having gained confidence from his 2016 campaign, the sprinter is determined to continue on this path.

Kruijswijk suffered some real bad luck in 2016 including two really bad crashes.

French rider Thibaut Pinot of FDJ is set to ride the 100th Giro d'Italia for the first time and is expected to take part in the Tour de France too.

So far, his best result in a Grand Tour is a third place in the 2014 Tour de France. Having finished 16th in 2015 and being unable to reach Paris in 2016, Pinot will be determined to finish the Giro.

This year's Giro is particularly brutal with a double climb of the Stelvio which on paper looks like one of the hardest stages a Grand Tour has ever produced.

Geraint Thomas hints at targeting Giro dItalia in 2017

Geraint Thomas has hinted he may target the Giro d’Italia instead of the Tour de France in 2017.

The 30-year-old Welshman has ridden the Tour in six of the past seven years and was part of Team Sky's squad for all three of Chris Froome's overall victories.

However, he is keen to challenge for Grand Tour wins himself, and with Froome almost guaranteed to lead the team again at the Tour next summer, Thomas is considering May's Giro as an alternative.
