Chris Froome hints at riding 2017 Giro d’Italia ride after the route is leaked


Chris Froome hinted he might be interested in riding the 2017 Giro dItalia after full details of this years route were leaked ahead of the official presentation on Tuesday October 25th.

The official Giro d’Italia 2017 route will be revealed by organiser RCS on Tuesday in Milan and features two individual time trials, as 39.2 km ITT on Stage 10 and a final 28km ITT on the last stage in Milan.

The route reveal could prove tempting as one of Froomes strength is his time trialling, especially making up or putting distance between himself and any rivals. Click here for full details of the 2017 Giro d'Italia.

CS Sport has unveiled a new logo for the 2017 Giro dItalia, which will be the 100th edition of the race.

The 2017 Giro will get underway in Alghero, Sardinia on May 5th.

The full route of the 100th edition of the race will be announced in Milan on October 25.

It is expected that the Giro will visit Sicily and Vincenzo Nibali’s home city of Messina following the three opening stages in Sardinia, though details of the route – including the location of the final stage – are yet to be confirmed.

Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) secured victory at the 99th Giro d’Italia after finishing safely on the final stage of the race into Turin. Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo) almost ended a string of near misses with a stage victory at the Giro d’Italia on the final day of the 2016 edition in Turin, however, officials later disqualified the Italian for irregular sprinting, giving Nikias Arndt (Giant-Alpecin) the stage win.

The 99th edition of the Giro d’Italia reached an explosive climax on Saturday with Vincenzo Nibali surging back, to claim victory in his home grand tour for a second time.

Making his move on the last big climb of the day, the Colle della Lombarda, with around 17.5km of the stage remaining, Nibali had whittled down the group of GC contenders before surging away solo from Chaves and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), cresting the climb with a gap of around one minute to his GC rivals, before the finish in Sant Anna di Vinadio.

Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) took emotional victory on hectic and breath-taking stage 19 of the Giro d’Italia.

In a day that saw the maglia rosa Steven Kruijswijk crash heavily, Nibali claimed valuable seconds on his rivals following a late attack on the last climb.

Mikel Nieve (Team Sky) crossed the line in second place with Esteban Chaves (Orica-GreenEdge) in second.
