Ion Izaguirre wins a difficult stage 20 as Chris Froome secures third Tour de France win

Spaniard Jon Izaguirre (Movistar) won a rain-soaked final stage in the Alps, as Team Sky celebrate Chris Froome's 3rd Tour de France win.

He attacked Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) and Jarlinson Pantano (IAM Cycling) on the treacherous rain soaked descent after the trio had formed as a group just before the summit of the climb.

Chris Froome and his Team Sky teammates, took the descent more carefully and crossed the line over four minutes later to celebrate with his Team Sky teammates.

Froome is just one processional stage from Paris away from winning his third Tour de France title, this is normally a formality for the overall GC riders, with just the final sprint to be thrashed out.

Romain Bardet posted the first French victory at this years Tour after a solo breakaway before the final ascent of Le Bettex.

Chris Froome and Nibali crashed on wet roads on the final descent before the climb.

He had to borrow team mate Geraint Thomas's bike to continue. Froome buried himself to hang on, but the relentless attacks saw some of his rivals stay clear in the final kilometres.

Col de Joux Plane. The final chance the peloton have to make their mark on the Tour!

OK, so barring alien abduction or worse it looks like Froome and the SKY boys are on for another yellow jersey come Paris, unless the final climb of the Tour can throw up an unexpected surprise on Saturday.

So here’s a look at the last chance the movers and shakers have to make their mark on the race and why the Col de Joux Plane is such a mischievous mountain.

Taking its name from the mediaeval term meaning “the seven mountains”, referencing the Cuidex, Vigny, Folly, Oddaz, Bostan, Chardonnière, Freterolles and La Vullie peaks that surround the alpine village, starting in Samoëns in the Vallée du Giffre the Joux Plane is a tough ride, and one that’s far harder than its credentials on paper may have you thinking.

Ride it ahead of the Peleton with Mike Cotty and the Col Collective.

Froome moves closer to third Tour de France Title

Britain' s Chris Froome put the hammer down in his bid to retain the Tour de France title when he won the 18th stage, a 17-km mountain time trial, to extend his overall lead to almost four minutes on Thursday.

The Team Sky rider, aiming to become the first to retain the title since Miguel Indurain in 1995, clocked a best time of 30 minutes 43 seconds on a course featuring the punishing Cote de Domancy, a 2.5-km climb at an average gradient of 9.4 percent.

He beat time trial specialist Tom Dumoulin by 21 seconds and Italian Fabio Aru by 33 seconds.
