Rohan Dennis wins Time Trial as Alaphillipe holds onto Yellow Jersey

Rohan Dennis set the fastest time 24m 16". 17 seconds faster than Andrew Talansky. Alaphilippe finished in a a time of 25m 1 secs to stay in the yellow jersey in front of Rohan Dennis by just 16 seconds.

It looks as if BMC will have to attack Alaphilippe on Stage 7, the King Stage inspired by Levi's Gran Fondo.

Toms Skujins (Cannondale) wins Stage 5 up to South Lake Tahoe in the Tour of California

24 year old Latvian Toms Skujins (Cannondale) outsprinted Adam de Vos (Rally Cycling) ahead of Xabier Zandio (Sky).

BMC and Trek-Segofredo worked hard to bring the breakway back but to no avail.

The three rode ahead of an 16 man breakaway that managed to stay away from the peleton until the final mile.

Sagan took his second bunch sprint after numerous attacks on the final category 3 climb to the Laguna Seca Raceway. 

Several attacks on the final climb were brought back by BMC.

With 210 meters to go Sagan weaved his way to the front to take the final sprint ahead of BMC's Greg Van Avermaet.

Julian Alaphillipe (Etixx - Quick Step) attacked reminents of the peleton on the upper slopes of Gibraltar Road to chase down Peter Stetina (Trek-Segafredo) on the final kilometre of the climb.

He caught Stetina with 350m to go. Stetina tried to keep on Alaphillipe's wheel but Alaphillipe went again and took the stage ahead of Stetina and Powless.

The 2nd stage from South Pasadena to Santa Clarita was 92 miles with over 11,000 feet of climbing.

On the second climb of the day, up Upper Big Tujunca Canyon, a break of 4 riders Evan Huffman (Rally), Benjamin King (Cannondale), Sindre Lunke (Giant-Team Alpecin), William Barta (Axeon Hagens Berman) formed after 32 miles.

Huffman and King managed to stay away all day, with only 8 seconds back to the peleton on the finish line where King outsprinted his surviving breakaway companion Huffman.
