Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) came from behind to overtake Wouter Wippert (Cannondale) and Dylan Grownewegen (Lotto Jumbo) in an amazing display of sprinting speed and power.

7 riders went away in a long break in the 108 mile stage, but all were reeled in with 2 miles to go.

Dimension Data And Team Dimension Data To Test New Technology Solutions At Tour Of California

During the eight-day stage race, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka riders will generate data including heart rate, speed, power, cadence, and position within the peloton. This data will be captured via a Dimension Data tracking solution.

The raw data will be transmitted to Dimension Data's cloud where it will be analyzed to provide insights through speed and group comparisons across different parts of the route, and shared via social media including Twitter. The solution is an example of Dimension Datas ability to combine Internet of Things and cloud technology with data analytics, in order to drive a revolutionary outcome in the world of professional cycling.

The Tour of California starts this Sunday May 15th.

The 2016 Tour of California includes world champions, olympic medalists, hopefuls and a Tour de France champion in an All-Star Lineup that includes Sagan, Wiggins, Cavendish, Degenkolb, Kristoff and Alaphilippe.

NBC Sports Sets Daily 2016 AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA Coverage

NBC Sports Group will present 16 hours of live race coverage of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California, beginning Sunday, May 15, at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN and culminating with the final stage on Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m. ET on NBC.

144 cyclists from 18 elite professional teams are expected to compete in the eight-day race. Top contenders include 2015 Amgen Tour of California champion Peter Sagan (Tinkoff), who won the by the closest margin in race history (3 seconds), and second-place finisher Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx - Quick-Step). Alaphilippe's teammate and top sprinter Mark Cavendish (Etixx - Quick-Step) also returns to the race after winning four individual stages last year.

The 2016 Amgen Tour of California, which enters its second decade as America's most prestigious annual cycling event, will feature San Luis Obispo County for the third straight year as part of this years epic event. Offering an unsurpassed field of mens professional teams for the 2016 race, cyclists will compete along one of the most scenic coastal regions in California, beginning in Morro Bay and heading north along Highway 1 through San Luis Obispo County to Monterey County.
