Stage 2

Wednesday February 01 2017 - Dubai to Ras al-Khaimah - 188 km Flat

The route of stage 2 in the 2017 Dubai Tour takes the riders to the neighbouring emirate of Ras al Khaimah. Following a flat course of 188 kilometres the finish is in the capital city with the same name.

Ras al Khaimah is debuting in the Dubai Tour. It’s one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In early 1972 Ras al Khaimah was the last emirate to join the federation. According to UAE standards it’s a fertile place. More rainfall than in the surrounding emirates and underground water streams from the mountains of Oman account for the green areas.

Stage 2 is not unlike most races in Dubai – the course is flat. After leaving Dubai City the riders follow the coast to the north. A small detour on the artificial island Al Marjan, and on they go on long straight roads.

As in all other stages in the Dubai Tour, time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds lay waiting on the line. Two intermediate sprints – after 19.8 and 94.8 kilometres – come with 3, 2 and 1 second each.

The stage starts at 11:00 and the finish is expected around 15:20, both local times.
