The village in the south of Luxembourg is home to 4.000 people. Two of them are quite famous: Andy and Fränk Schleck. Both have retired. Andy in 2014 in and Fränk in 2016.

In arrival place Vittel are no famous inhabitants, the place is known for its mineral water.

The first part of stage 4 is mainly flat, the second half comes with some minor hills. All in all, the riders have to climb as the arrival lies almost 300 metres higher than the departure place. Yet, it is doubtful whether a sprinter will be alarmed by that fact.

The first three riders on the line take time bonuses at 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
