Robin Williams' bikes being auctioned for charity

The late and great Robin Williams loved cycling. It was one of biggest hobbies and greatest passion. The world known actor amassed a huge collection of over 100 bikes

San Francisco, CA, October 14th - Comic actor Robin Williams was a fanatical cyclist. The “Mrs. Doubtfire” star built up a collection of over 100 bicycles. Eighty-seven of them are now being auctioned for charity.

Robin Williams loved bicycles. Away from the public eye, Williams was a passionate cyclist who found happiness and camaraderie and was often seen pedaling the roads near his Bay Area home on won of his top rides.

Williams’s bike collections is legendary. It contains everything from top Tour de France racing bikes to one-of-a-kind machines.

There are single-speeds, a chopper, a Trek Tour de France bike from the Armstrong era.

At its peak, Williams’s collection numbered more than 100 bikes, such was his passion for cycling.

Like many riders, Williams found both a passion and a soulful comfort in the sport. It let his escape his normal routine and famously commented "Cycling is the closest someone could get to flying"

“He had such a passion for the sport and the bicycle,” said Williams’s friend Jim Ochowicz, manager of BMC Racing Team. “He loved the colors, the design, the engineering. When I rode with him, he’d often be on another bike, and I’d be like, ‘Whoa, where is that one from?’”

Eleven days before he passed away in August 2014, Robin Williams sent out what would be his final message.

The July 31st message was a birthday greeting to his only daughter Zelda, a young actress who was turning 25-years-old.

“#tbt and Happy Birthday to Ms. Zelda Rae Williams! Quarter of a century old today but always my baby girl,” Williams wrote.

The auction closes on 25th October.
