Gran Fondo NJ Wraps up its 2016 calendar with its Beneficiary Awards and annual Volunteer Party
This week Gran Fondo NJ recognized the efforts of its amazing team of volunteers with a celebration at The Seeing Eye in Morristown NJ
Nov 15, 2016, Morristown New Jersey - The event featured the premiere of the event video, as well as the presentation of checks totaling $36,000 to the event beneficiaries, The Seeing Eye, Homeless Solutions, Inc., Grow it Green Morristown and the New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition.
In total, Gran Fondo NJ 2016 and its riders raised $260,010 for charity and has raised over $1,000,000 since the first Gran Fondo NJ in 2011.
The event was also recognized by Sustainable Morristown for its continued sustainability and recycling efforts with over 90% of the waste generated from the event being diverted from landfills to composting or recycling facilities.
This year’s event drew in 2,414 registered participants from around the US and around the world and was supported by a team of over 250 dedicated volunteers. The event attracted over 130 teams, with 8 teams of 30 riders or more. Collectively the cyclists rode over 146,665 miles and burned over 7 million calories, and consumed much, much more.
Registration has opened for Gran Fondo NJ 2017, being held on September 10, and is currently running 47% ahead of last year’s record numbers.
