Perfect Xmas Gift: Darrell Parks' 2017 Pro Cycling Calendar

The 17 by 11 inch calendar features images from the 2016 North American racing season. It makes a perfect gift for the cyclist on your Holiday shopping list!

It's custom made with spiral binding, 16 full color glossy images printed on heavyweight paper, and it's sealed in a clear cellophane retail wrap.

Professional cycling photographer Darrell Parks shoots most major races in the USA for clients ranging from component manufacturers such as SRAM to news outlets like Velo, Peloton Magazine, and PEZ Cycling News.

He's also hired directly by some of the races and events as well. He's worked for Levi's Gran Fondo for the first 5 years of the ride and was specifically tasked with putting together a portfolio of images to help promote the event.

He started making the calendar as a promotional item for clients and friends about 10 years ago. He began selling the calendar to the public about 5 years ago, after incessant prodding by most people whom had received it. It's a lot of work but it's also become a big part of his photo business.

Darrell really enjoys enjoy shooting cycling events and capturing the excitement of the races but most of my inspiration comes from the scenery at these events. Many of these races take place in remote areas of the country where the views can be nothing short of spectacular. He's come to be known in the cycling photography world for his wide open scenic shots.

Darrell believes that stems from his early photography days where he enjoyed traveling to National Parks and shooting images of landscapes.

Darrell comments "If you look at the majority of my cycling pictures, you'll notice they are really just landscape images with cyclist thrown in for added interest! Each month of the calendar features one of these scenic images as I believe looking at a breathtaking landscape shot for 30 days in a row is more appealing then looking at a close up of Peter Sagan every day."

"Of course my wife, and many women cyclists out there, tend to disagree with that logic! For those people, I add a couple of bonus images into the last pages of the calendar that feature some exciting racing action as well"
