Beers & Gears celebration featuring Deschutes Brewery new to Jingle Cross World Cup in September

In addition to three days of cyclo-cross racing, the Jingle Cross Cyclo-Cross Festival and Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup this year will include a Beers & Gears celebration featuring several Deschutes Brewery beers, including some that only are available at Deschutes brewpubs in Oregon

Beers & Gears will take place Friday, Sept. 15, through Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds south of Iowa City. Cyclo-cross races also begin Friday, Sept. 15, and continue until the Telenet UCI women’s and men’s World Cup races on Sunday, Sept. 17.

“This is our fourth year partnering with Jingle Cross, and it’s an absolute perfect fit,” says Paul DeVries, market manager for Deschutes Brewery. “The people who love our beers are the same people who love cyclo-cross, live music, and having fun where it is all in the same place at the same time.”

The Deschutes Beers & Gears beer garden with live music will be located in the north area of the fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Featured beers will include Twilight Summer Ale and Decathletes Desire, which are only produced at Deschutes Brewery’s Portland and Bend, Oregon, pubs. Other varieties on tap will include Fresh Squeezed IPA, Pacific Wonderland Lager, Hopzeit Autumn IPA, and Deschutes’ newest brew, American Wheat Ale.

A 16-ounce draft will cost $5. Additional 12-ounce bottles of Deschutes Brewery varieties will be available at beverage stations around the fairgrounds for the same price.

“Jingle Cross is a great venue for Deschutes to bring our beers to the craft beer crowd in Iowa,” says DeVries. “What could be better than being at Jingle Cross, the UCI World Cup, and having a cold Deschutes beer in your hand?”

Race Director John Meehan says the Beers & Gears beer garden will enhance the overall event.

“We’ll have three days of racing starting Friday afternoon and continuing until the Telenet UCI World Cup races on Sunday,” Meehan says. “Beers & Gears isn’t just for cyclo-cross athletes and fans. You can also be a fan of micro-brew beer or listening to live music in a fun atmosphere. This will add to the overall Jingle Cross experience.”

Tickets to the Telenet UCI World Cup races on Sunday, Sept. 17, are available now for $5 at local bicycle shops and at the Iowa City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau locations in Coralville and Iowa City.
