Record 800 cyclist's ride UK's Isle of Man Gran Fondo
The Gran Fondo Isle of Man in the United Kingdom took place this weekend with organisers saying over 800 cyclists are registered to be involved in this years 5th edition
The series is made up of four races - from a family-friendly Minisculo Fondo around Mooragh Park up to the 85-mile Gran Fondo on mostly closed roads.
Local people endured a list of road closures for the Gran Fondo, Medio Fondo and Piccolo Fondo on Sunday on the island.
Organisers invited local people to head down to the cycling village for food and drink and the start of each of the four races.
Presented by PokerStars, the full-distance Gran Fondo covered a total of 85 miles, with a ’half course’ 40-mile Medio Fondo and a shorter family-friendly 20-mile Piccolo Fondo that featured the first and last part of the full course.
In addition there was also a novice and junior cyclist Minisculo Fondo round Mooragh Park on Saturday.
As well as some of the Isle of Man’s finest food and drink producers, the village featured local cycling retailer Cycle 360 who were on hand to provide tips and bike maintenance as well as live big screen action from the first two stages of the Tour de France.
The directors of Gran Fondo Isle of Man thanked local residents for their support, co-operation and understanding.
