TransRockies Gravel Royale rescheduled to August 22 – 25th 2022

With a full field being rolled over from 2021, organizers have decided to add 100 additional places next year, which includes 25 early bird places reserved for women only. 2022 registration in now open so please hurry!

Due to safety reasons organizers had to make the tough decision to postpone the inaugural 2021 event due to the introduction of temporary tighter health restrictions affecting the size of outdoor gatherings in the British Columbia interior, due to the risk of spreading the new variant of COVID in more remote areas.

2021 registered athletes have been deferred to 2022 with no penalty and have received all the information on the 2022 race.

There was an overwhelming response from registered riders who were initially disappointed, but understanding and supportive of the decision to postpone.

Due to the above response and with a full field being rolled over from 2021, organizers have decided to add 100 additional places for next year, which includes 25 early bird places reserved for women!

The full 4-day gravel stage race (called the Royal Flush) extends 375 km and climbs a total of 7,000m. A whopping 84% is gravel road. The rest is made up of 10% pavement, 5% double-track and 1% single-track. The full 4-day gravel stage race will take place August 22 – 25th 2022.

There is also a shorter 2-day version called the Ante Up, and finally, a 3-day E-bike poker ride across the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

The organizers are experts on the rugged and remote nature of the stages, and will ensure an expertly marked course, 2 checkpoints per stage, as well as ambassadors and course crews, ready to lend racers a helping hand.

The TransRockies Gravel Royale course traverses Panorama Mountain Resort, Nipika Mountain Resort, the Village of Canal Flats and ends in the City of Fernie, B.C. The four-day stage race will cover 375 km (233 miles) and around 7,000 m (23,000 ft) of climbing.

“Not going to lie, it has definitely been a difficult end of the summer; we were really excited to be hosting our BC events again,” said Aaron McConnell, President of TransRockies. “But like we tell our athletes as they are climbing the last hill of the day, it’s time to dig deep, we still have to make it to the finish. We are already looking forward to 2022 and hosting an even better Gravel Royale.”

Continuing in 2022, TransRockies Gravel Royale will offer alternative options for riders and their families, including a two-day “Ante Up” ride, a three-day E-Bike “Poker Ride,” and the “Fair Deal Family Mountain Bike Challenge” during stage two in Nipika.

The stages of Gravel Royale will take riders on secluded gravel roads through the Canadian Rocky Mountains, traditional home to the Ktunaxa Nation Indiginous people. Riders will experience vast mountain views, native wildlife and winding stretches of gravel in this difficult, but achievable challenge. The extensive network of well maintained fire roads in the region guarantee great riding and racing conditions. We will have limited spots available, riders will want to “ante up” early to get a spot at the table.

After each stage, participants can anticipate a relaxing, fun and memorable time at camp. After 20 years, TransRockies has perfected their camp hospitality and provides all of the amenities riders could need. The TransRockies team transports gear/luggage, sets up tents at each stage, provides showers and prepares meals. Each night, massage and athletic therapy stations are available along with mechanical support and a bike wash for participants. With all TransRockies stage races, the Chillville will make an appearance at Gravel Royale and will be equipped with music, snacks and a nice campfire for riders to socialize and hang out with other participants.

Registration includes e-bike charging, event jersey and finisher’s belt buckle and T-shirt too!
