Jan Ullrich back in Hospital after another Drug Relapse
Concern across Germany and the cycling world for Jan Ullrich, who has suffered another relapse in his battle with addictions and hospitalised
Just as it looked like Jan Ullrich was back on top after completing the Gran Fondo Mallorca 312km route which contains over 5,000 vertical metres of climbing, his longest bike ride since the 1997 Milan - San Remo, the 1997 Tour de France and the 1999 Vuelta a Espana winner has experienced another setback.
Ullrich hit rock bottom three years ago and had been receiving treatment.
In a recent podcast with Lance Armstrong, he confessed that drugs and alcohol almost claimed his life, saying "Three years ago I had big problems and then you came to see me. I was so glad you came and yes, I was just like Marco Pantani. Almost dead."
The German, who lives in Mallorca, had been celebrating his birthday in Cuba, but according to reports in Germany was taken to hospital in Mexico on a layover on the way home and later transferred to a clinic in Switzerland.
Jan Ullrich finished the 2021 Gran Fondo Mallorca 312km in a time of 10h 59m 56s after training hard.
