The 5 Canyons Bike Challenge – Have what it takes?

The fifth Edition of the 5 Canyons Bike Challenge will tackle all five of Salt Lake Valley’s canyons in one day, on September 17, 2022!

The beauty and serenity of an early morning canyon ride is unmatched.

Wheels of Justice is stoked to announce the fifth edition of the 5 Canyons Bike Challenge! 5 Canyons is one of the most daunting—and beautiful—cycling challenges in the USA, ascending more than 14,300 feet over 116 miles through all five of Salt Lake City’s beautiful riding canyons, comprising three HC climbs and two Category 2 climbs—in one day! This challenge is one made for those who love the thrill of climbing.  Not ready to bite off all five canyons?  Register for the Fewer than 5 option and choose one, two, three, or four of the canyons to ride.

The fifth Edition of the 5 Canyons Bike Challenge will tackle all five of Salt Lake Valley’s canyons in one day

The ride has more vertical of climbing than even Mount Whitney (the tallest peak in the lower 48). The ride first ascends Little Cottonwood Canyon, then moves on to Big Cottonwood Canyon, Millcreek Canyon, Emigration Canyon, and finishes with City Creek Canyon in the heart of Salt Lake City.

The beauty and serenity of an early morning canyon ride is unmatched. And, there is no more abundance of beautiful canyons in all the world than right here along the Wasatch Front.

There will be four fully stocked aid stations at the mouths of the last four canyons. Each aid station will be equipped with ice water, EFS drink mix (courtesy of First Endurance), Probars (courtesy of PROBAR), and a host of other snacks.  The Emigration aid station will also have turkey sandwiches (courtesy of Jimmy John's).

Feedback from Previous Participants

Please pass along my thanks to the awesome on-course support team yesterday.  They were incredible! Ragnar, the gentleman on the motorcycle who accompanied me along 11th Ave and to the finish, John up City Creek, and the other on course and aid station volunteers were so friendly and helpful. This year has been so stressful—wasn’t sure I was going to be able to finish, and it meant a lot to me that I did. I just marked 33 years with type 1 diabetes and also was in an abusive marriage and had to basically flee with my kids, so the cause is personal as well. - Anne

Just wanted to say thanks for a great event and thanks to all your team for their hard work to make it happen!  I’ve been riding 3 years.  I found out about this ride a week before…..and being honest I signed up with a little trepidation thinking about all the hard core fit men and women who would be riding. I decided to go for it and glad I did! It was well organized from start to finish….from the bag drops to the sandwiches half way through.  From Encouraging fellow riders to supportive volunteers at the aid stations! Thanks again for challenging my riding skills….felt a huge sense of accomplishment at the finish line….if anyone was on the fence like I was I would tell them to go for it and sign up…. look forward to next years event! - Brian

This event was executed perfectly. The route is well planned, not very many intersection crossings. The aid stations are some of the best. The volunteers are always so friendly and helpful. And, the cause/purpose for doing it is much needed and very commendable. Thanks for organizing this epic event! - Jacob

What an amazing event!! Extremely challenging, amazing scenery, iconic climbs, well supported with supper people, and a lot of difficult fun—more than I anticipated and likely one of my top 3 rides. I’m telling anyone that has done Lotoja that they need to try their luck at 5 Canyons and see if they think it’s more challenging like my brother and I did. - Wade

Parts of me hurt that never hurt before. haha! Hopefully I can do more things like this in the future.  Seriously a big thank you to Wheels of Justice for putting on such a great event for a wonderful cause. It was so worth doing!! - Jeanette

Just wanted to let you know that virtually every one of our folks helping out yesterday said that this was one of the best events of the year. - Mickey, UtahSAG

Thanks again for putting on such a great ride yesterday!!! I really appreciate it. Please pass on my appreciation to all the other volunteers who made it possible. - Trevor

Thanks for putting on my favorite bike ride so far. - Matt

Thanks for a great day of riding, the support was fantastic. You guys certainly put on a first class event. See you next year. - Paul

I just wanted to say thank you for a successful event today. Riding all five canyons has long been a goal of mine, and knocking that off the bucket list was awesome. I really appreciated the well stocked aid stations and the eager cheer section that greeted me at each one. - Daniel

I want to formally thank you again for organizing such a fantastic event. What an experience. Everything exceeded my expectations, especially the Aid Stations! I appreciate all your work towards this wonderful cause. See you next year! - Jad

Thanks for hosting this event... great cause and GREAT VOLUNTEERS.  I’m not a high mileage guy, if it weren’t for your outstanding volunteers I would have cashed in my chips after the second descent, but 10 minutes at Aide Station 2 featuring pleasant conversation/encouragement and Jimmy John’s/Chocolate crepes were just what I needed to get me going again! - Craig
