Top Time Trialists forced to dodge cars and cyclists

Sketchy scenes witnessed during EasyToys Bloeizone Fryslân Tour (2.1) Time Trial in the Netherlands, where riders were met with commuting cyclists riding towards them on the course!

Unreal scenes saw TT riders dodge cars on the course, which were not part of the race.

In one scene, a white van drove across the path of an oncoming rider as they attempted to reverse into a driveway.

In another scene, a rider was sprinting for the finish line they had to squeeze up the side of an oncoming car that was on the course driving towards them.

The 14.4km Time trial was partly run on a cycle lane without any controls to stop or warn the general public.

It was further complicated as the route was separated into two lanes; one for riders and their following vehicles going out, and the other side for riders and their vehicles coming back.

The stage was won by world Time Trial champion Ellen van Dijk (Trek-Segafredo), who was 7 seconds faster than Riejanne Markus (Jumbo-Visma) and 25 seconds faster than Marlen Reusser (Team SD Worx) in third.
