The 11th edition of the Cache Gran Fondo takes places place on Saturday July 9th 2022, and is one of Utah’s Premier Bike Rides.

Cyclists get to ride through the beautiful Cache Valley countryside on light-traffic roads in Utah with distances of 35, 50, 75 and 100 miles to suit all abilities.

Cache Gran Fondo celebrates 11th Anniversary this July!

You’ll experience challenging hills, long rolling flat stretches, and the clean fresh air of the Cache Valley.

The ride starts in North Logan and proceeds north through Trenton, Clarkston, Newton and then to Mendon. The 100 mile riders continue north to Weston, then climb Weston Canyon to Malad and return through Riverside and back to the start to earn your custom finishers medal!

All distances offer well-stocked support stations with real food from Lee’s Marketplace, Newton Market, Built Bar, Hammer Nutrition, and all the Gatorade, water and Pepsi products you can drink. All riders are offered a light breakfast at the start-line, and a unique rider lunch where you chose your preference from one of 3 different local restaurants.

The finish line will be a huge celebration with local fresh food for the rider’s lunch, great prizes and a chance to win gift items, bike stuff, gifts cards, and other awesome prizes!

Over 40 local and state-wide sponsors also provide over $8,000 dollars’ worth of rider prizes and rider gifts, including Campchef stoves and outdoor cooking items, cycling items from Al’s Sporting Goods, Joyride Bikes & The Sportsman. Also high-end pillows from Malouf Sleep, and ARS always provides FatBoy ice cream sandwiches as you cross the finish line.

So beware, even those not racing can benefit from prizes awarded randomly across the event. Although much of the route is relatively flat, the routes also offer challenge climbs, but in short distances, just to keep it interesting.

Registration includes a light breakfast and rider lunch, rider gift (t-shirt), finishers medal, fully stocked support stations and a limited-edition cycling jersey offered at low cost (only $40 with registration).

The a beautiful 76-mile (122-km) course is a qualifier event for both the UCI Gran Fondo World Series and the Gran Fondo National Series, which will lead riders through the Cache Valley towards Idaho to finish back in Logan.

The Routes

The 35 mile Piccolo Fondo is a GREAT first ride, training ride, and rehab distance. e-bikes are welcome, because the event wants people to get out on the open roads and experience a Gran Fondo event. Just 444 feet of climbing.

The 50 mile Classic Gran Fondo is unique opportunity to ride a similar route as the Tour of Utah covering about 90% of the exact same roads as the 2019 Tour of Utah Stage 1. 1,082 feet of climbing.

The 76 mile Medio Fondo is our race course for the UCI Gran Fondo Championship qualifier, as well as the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Series qualifier, and will be timed just like the competitive race.

If not racing, you get to enjoy ALL THREE support stations in Newton, Weston and Lewiston. There is 1,713 feet of climbing spread over 3 gradual uphill grades. If you are not sure about the Century Fondo, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND this course instead.

The 104 mile Century Fondo is RECOMMEND to riders who can maintain an 18-20 mph average, or who will be working together in a pack ride this course. There usually is a building thermal-wind out of the south that makes getting back from Malad tough. 3,496 feet of climbing.

Please note, the 76-mile course is a fantastic alternative, plenty of flats and hills, and a beautiful course with a lot of open roads.

You’ll experience challenging hills, long rolling flat stretches, and the clean fresh air of the Cache Valley.

2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Series Qualifier

2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championship

The 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will this year take place in Trento, Italy on September 15-18. Details of the courses for the Time Trial, Team Relay, Medio and Granfondo have been revealed.

All events start and finish in “Le Albere”, a new development area near the Adige River, only 1km from the main square “Piazza del Duomo”.  Also the location for registration, parking and expo area are within walking distance.

The time trial on the Thursday is 95% the same course that has been used by the elite riders during the European Championships last year September.  The 19.7km course is mainly flat with a loop towards the south to come back on the other side of the Adige River with only two bridges as main difficulties.

The team relay is on a flat and short city circuit on Friday evening while the Granfondo and Mediofondo on Sunday are hard and challenging with a lot of elevation.

Those riders who already attended the traditional Charly Gaul Granfondo will see that the northern loop in the start will disappear as riders now head directly to the bottom of Monte Bondone which has to be done one and a half times for the 87km Mediofondo and two and a half times for the 145km Granfondo riders before heading back to the finish in the city centre.

After a first flat 10km, riders start the 20km climb of Monte Bondone from the southwest side followed by a long downhill to the Valley of the Lakes where participants will pass a few scenic villages on undulating roads before starting the second 17.5km climb of Monte Bondone from the northern side towards Vason (1651m) where they connect again with the downhill and passage through the valley before starting the third Bondone climb, this time until halfway for a final 12km downhill towards the finish.  The last 2km in the city center are again flat.

Mediofondo riders will also do the first 20km climb and go left halfway their second climb in Candriai. Total elevation for the Granfondo is 3900m over a distance of 145km while the mediofondo has an elevation of 2218m over 87km, a true challenge for those who love to climb.

2022 USA Cycling Gran Fondo Championships

The Cache Gran Fondo is an official 2022 Gran Fondo National Series event. This includes an opportunity for riders who participate in Cache Gran Fondo to earn Series Points and also qualify for the 2022 & 2023 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships, which in 2022 will be held on July 17, 2022 in Asheville, NC. Scoring for Series points at Cache Gran Fondo will be determined by adding each riders’ overall Start-to-Finish time with their segment-times. Age-groups for scoring will be matched to Series age-groups and may not follow the same primary age-groupings used at the Cache Gran Fondo.  Specificity calculation for Series points will be calculated in the following way:

- Classic Fondo Route. Cache Gran Fondo has designated their 76 mile course as the qualifier and will count the 1) Start-to-Finish time + 2) KOM/QOM Climb segment times + 3) Sprint segment  = the competitive time for Series Gran Route placement and points. Prizes will also be awarded for segment wins as well as overall.

- The Century, Medio and Piccolo Routes will not be competitively timed for Series points. All riders will be eligible for prizes based on random drawing throughout the day.

Riders who qualify for the USAC Gran Fondo National Championships will receive an invite to the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championship in Asheville, NC on July 17, 2022 as well as an invite for 2023
