Can you handle the Hoodoo 500 this August?

HOODOO 500 is far and away the most challenging and beautiful premier ultra-distance bicycle race in the USA, and a qualifier for the Race Across America

Can you handle the Hoodoo 500 this August?

You have two ways to participate in this EPIC challenge: IN-PERSON Southern Utah at St. George, August 25th-28th, or VIRTUALLY anywhere on Planet Earth from August 1st-21st.

No other event has SO MANY OPTIONS!  500 or 300 miles. Non-stop or Stage Race. Solo, tandem, 2-person or 4-person relay; with support crew or self-supported. Only one support crew needed. Participants may share crew.

Hoodoo is the only ultra-event in the Western USA with a loop course without a single mile repeated. It's the only ultra-event which passes Zion National Park, Bryce National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante, Dixie National Forest and Snow Canyon State Park.  Relay teams may self-support or bring crew; and make their own race strategy with unrestricted exchanges along the route.

Geologically speaking, hoodoos are tall, skinny spires of rock that protrude from the bottom of arid basins and sedimentary rock. The scenery varies from majestic cliffs and striking red rock hoodoos to aspen and pine forests and high mountain meadows. All the best of Utah’s Color Country!

Mystically speaking, Hoodoo means a “magical spell”; which is what the Hoodoo 500 experience will cast upon you!!!

No other event has SO MANY OPTIONS! 500 or 300 miles

Hoodoo 500 is far and away the most challenging and beautiful ultra-route in the West.  Each year, the unique finisher’s jersey is simply AWESOME.

The post-race breakfast banquet is super fun, with a delicious meal, great awards for top finishers and also fun awards and raffle prizes.

LIVE GPS tracking; tech t-shirt and other Hoodoo souvenir for each rider. Finisher’s medal for each successful rider and again the finisher’s jersey for each successful rider.  Weekend long twitter feed from Race Headquarters and on route. Solo finishers qualify for Race across America.

Fuel and hotel costs in Utah are less than California and Nevada. Bottom line: Hoodoo is just way better in every way. AND, Planet Ultra would love to host you!

Come test yourself, and bring your lucky mojo. Amazing scenery, quiet roads, epic climbs, exhilarating descents, and the best post-race banquet with awards and prizes.

HOODOO 500 always feels like a family affair! Once you participate, you'll be back year after year. So start NOW or please come again!

Planet Ultra would love for you to join the Hoodoo tribe! So, which division will YOU race?

Hoodoo 500 Virtual Race

If traveling to Utah for the race of a lifetime isn't in the cards for you this year, we have a NEW HOODOO 500 VIRTUAL RACE, to challenge and inspire you!

Two Divisions, Two Categories:
Elite Outdoors: August 1-14
Elite Indoors:  August 1-14
Standard Outdoors:  August 1-21
Standard Indoors:  August 1-21

The event is basically a 2 or 3-week stage race. Getting through the 520 miles in the fewest number of days is NOT the goal. The goal is to finish 520 miles with 35,000' climbing with the lowest cumulative time

While you're welcome to power through the miles and climbing in as few days as possible; you just might (and likely will) get beat by someone who does a short, fast-paced ride each day for the 14 or 21 days. SPEED is the key. Choose whatever strategy works best for you; keeping in mind that SPEED, not distance or how few days it took you to do the distance, is what counts.

ALL finishers earn the exclusive HOODOO 500 VR jersey which will be based on the LIVE race design (currently in progress).
