Sportful Dolomiti Gran Fondo Results 2013

For the hardcore, the Sportful Dolomiti Gran Fondo 210km long course is considered the hardest Gran Fondo in Europe.

It's a must do event, nothing but sunny skies, beautiful views and good company throughout.

The long route is 136 miles with over 17,390 feet of climbing is a true test for any cyclists.

In fact the event's tag line is "Only for real cyclists". There is a shorter 78 mile course which still packs in 8,694 feet of climbing.

Ex-pro cyclist Jered Gruber,  bike photographer, writer, and rider and journalist working for Peloton Magazine, Bicycling Australia, and Pezcyclingnews.com summed up riding the event:

"Every ride is not created equal. Some stand far above the others - rides that will forever live on in memory and tales.

Today was one of those special ones. I had the chance to do something I never thought I'd do: ride 9 hours, 215k (135mi), and climb 5,100m (17,000ft).

I know it's not that crazy, but for me, it broke down a lot of walls, showed me a new horizon of possibilities, and most of all, it was fun.

At its most basic, I got to ride with a good friend through the Dolomites, talking, laughing, sharing in the unique pain of a ride that was insane, for all intents and purposes, beyond us. It was a privilege today, Steve.

Thanks for getting me out there, thanks for challenging me, and thanks for the day.

I will never forget it!" - Jered Gruber
