Alabama Backroads - 2014 Century Rides Series

Presented by Wells Fargo Advisors and Alabama Outdoors the 2014 Alabama Backroads Century Series is a series of 10 great centuries located throughout the State of Alabama used to promote the growth and development of long distance cycling in the state of Alabama, encourage participation in established Alabama century (100 mile) rides, recognize and reward individual cyclists for their accomplishments, and benefit the charities and advocacy efforts supported by each of these events.

The series also provides a great opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors Alabama and the scenic and unique backdrops that each ride calls it’s own.  As a participant you are encouraged to ride and complete as many of the series centuries as possible.  Each century will have their own unique medal designed and awarded to each participant that meets the challenge of riding 100 miles.  If you can complete at least 4 of the 10 centuries in the series you will be awarded a special patch by the Alabama Backroads Century Ride Series.  Some may make it a goal to complete 1,000 miles of the best centuries the state has to offer.

Come join the challenge and see what the backroads of Alabama have to offer!

Next year sees a new event - the Tour de Blue on April 26th in Birmingham (Moody).

The Challenge

Complete four of the Alabama Centuries (100-mile options)  in the Series.

The Rewards

Receive a collectible “Centurion” Finisher’s Medal for each (100-mile) century you complete.

Upon completion of four century rides in the Series, receive an embroidered patch in the shape of Alabama, indicating each event location.

Cheaha Challenge Gran Fondo
April 06 2014 - Jacksonville, Alabama, USA

Cheaha

This year's  ride begins and ends in Jacksonville, AL. The challenge of this ride is that the participants encounter over 7,400 feet of cumulative climbing, which is concentrated in 45 miles of the ride. Shorter route options have much less climbing. The CCC+ is famous for being extremely well organized and supported by local volunteers and businesses.

The course is out-and-back and takes cyclists over Cheaha Mountain, Alabama's highest point at 2,407 feet, and home of Cheaha State Park. Given that the route is out-and-back, cyclists also have 7,400 feet of FAST downhill! Most of the 102 mile route takes riders through the Talladega National Forest by way of the Talladega Scenic Drive, affording breathtaking vistas of the beautiful mountains and valleys in this foothills region. The Northeast Alabama Bicycle Club has donated more than $22,000 to this wonderful project.
