Parenzana is a 120 year old railway line from Porec to Trieste and is simply one of the most breath-taking and unique gravel courses in Europe.

There are three courses to suit all abilities of cyclists and Gravel bikes, MTB and e-MTB bikes are welcome.

The 27km Hobby course from Groznjan to Portoroz is downhill most of the way.

The 47km Adventure course starts in Livade and has around 530m of climbing before reaching Portoroz.

The 85km Ultra course starts in Porec on the warm shores of the Adriatic coast, the course meanders inland onto the defunct Parenzana railway, without a car in sight. It features two major climbs and 975 m of climbing.

The narrow gauge railway, which was built way back in 1902, carried fish from the ports and stones from the local quarries, has long since gone. In its place is sublime gravel with the original embankments, cuttings, bridges and viaducts still in place. There a 9 tunnels, probably the most famous of such tunnels is the tunnel Valeta, between Strunjan and Portorož.

As this is based on a railway track, the gradients don’t exceed 5% and 90% of the courses are on gravel. It’s probably one of the most scenic rides in the whole of Europe.

Parenzana is the most famous and the most visited cycling and hiking trail in the Istria region. This is pure gravel Croatian and Slovenian style. If you want to escape the rat-race this spring and immerse yourself in the warmth of nature and adventure then this Bucket-List gravel ride is for you.
