Emergency responders rushed to the scene after the accident on Wednesday afternoon, quickly deciding that helicopter transport was necessary due to the critical nature of Froome’s condition. Medical examinations revealed a collapsed lung, five fractured ribs, and a broken lumbar vertebra. Despite these grave injuries, Froome remains in stable condition and was conscious throughout, with no head trauma reported.

“This is a tough moment for Chris and all of us who support him,” said Israel-Premier Tech team spokesperson. “Thankfully, he is stable and alert. He is scheduled for spinal surgery this afternoon to address the vertebrae fracture, and we will continue to provide updates as his recovery progresses.”

The crash occurred in isolation, with no other riders or vehicles involved. French media outlet L'Equipe noted that Froome was responsive and able to communicate with hospital staff upon arrival. The cycling community worldwide has already begun sending messages of support and hope for a smooth recovery.

Chris Froome’s team is closely monitoring his condition and remains committed to sharing timely information as he undergoes treatment.

The crash effectively ends Froome's competitive season, with recovery from such extensive injuries expected to require significant rehabilitation time.

The Kenya-born rider, who represents Britain and is widely regarded as the nation's most successful road cyclist, had been preparing for upcoming races when the accident occurred.

The previously dominant Froome, 40, is a seven-time winner of cycling’s prestigious Grand Tour races, achieving overall success at the Tour de France in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 with Team Sky (now Ineos Grenadiers), plus seven individual stage victories.

He also won the Giro d’Italia in 2018 and the Vuelta a Espana in both 2011 and 2017. His illustrious career has also included Olympic time trial bronze at London 2012 and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, plus multiple world championship medals and three wins at the Criterium du Dauphine.
