Martelli and Gaday Triumph at 2025 Gran Fondo Siete Lagos in Argentina

Argentina’s iconic Gran Fondo Siete Lagos delivered fast racing and dramatic solo wins this past weekend as Sofia Martelli and Lucas Gaday claimed the women’s and men’s titles respectively in the point-to-point 110-kilometer classic across Patagonia’s Road of the Seven Lakes. The event drew more than 3,000 cyclists from across South America and beyond, reaffirming its place as one of the continent’s premier gran fondos.

Starting in San Martín de los Andes and finishing in Villa La Angostura, the course challenged riders with rolling mountain terrain and stunning lake-front scenery. Former Argentinian pro Lucas Gaday of Dolores Cycles Club extended a dominant season by crossing the line solo in 2:34:04, adding to his earlier victory at GFNY Colonia in Uruguay. Gaday was followed by Tomas Conte and Enrique Estevez, who completed the podium with identical times of 2:35:11.

“The course rewards strength and smart timing,” said Lucas Gaday. “Today everything came together — the legs, the weather, and the support from spectators along the lakes. It’s a special win after Colonia and a reminder of how competitive gran fondo racing has become here in Argentina.”

In the women’s race, 2025 Argentinian national road silver medalist Sofia Martelli rode a powerful solo effort to win in 2:53:24, finishing nearly four minutes ahead of Marina Fernandez (2:57:09). Pamela De La Iglesias rounded out the women’s podium in 3:00:38.

Organizers highlighted the event’s growth and community impact, noting strong local engagement, volunteer support, and a clear emphasis on safety and sustainability. Medical and neutral support teams were on hand throughout the route, while traffic controls and clear signage helped ensure a smooth and secure ride for the large and diverse field. Riders commented on the exceptional scenery and well-managed logistics, with many saying the race combines elite competition with the festival atmosphere typical of the world’s great gran fondos.

Gran Fondo Siete Lagos continues to attract both elite athletes and amateur riders seeking a challenging, scenic test. The event’s mix of competitive racing and mass participation has helped raise the profile of Argentine cycling and boosted tourism in the Lake District region. Organizers are already planning enhancements for next year’s edition to improve rider services and broaden international outreach.

At next year’s race on 22 November Granfondo Siete Lagos joins the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, providing participants an opportunity to qualify for the 2027 UCI Gran Fondo World Championsip taking place in Haute-Savoie, France if they finish in the Top 25% of their age/gender category.
