Cyclists of all abilities are invited to choose from four scenic routes30 km, 50 km (family ride), 100 km, or 150 km. Each route showcases the natural beauty that makes this region special, including quiet country roads, rolling hills through Arkona, thriving fruit orchards, and breathtaking waterfront views. All routes finish lakeside, creating a memorable and rewarding experience for every rider.

B.I.G. uses a timed-section format rather than a traditional start-to-finish race. This innovative approach reduces mass-start anxiety while still offering a competitive edge for those who want it. Riders receive official times for designated timed sections, but there is no overall race time. Between segments, participants can ride at their own pace, stop at fuel stations, regroup with friends, and enjoy the day without pressure. Each distance has its own start time, carefully planned so riders across all routes finish within a similar window.

Participants must be 15 years or older, unless riding in the family category accompanied by an adult.

All registered riders receive an impressive event package that includes:

- An official event jersey
- Swag bag and finisher medal
- Fully supported and well-marked routes
- Bike support on course
-
hot meal at the finish
- Cold beverages
- Live band entertainment
- Beer available for purchase

After crossing the finish line, riders are encouraged to cool off with a refreshing swim in Lake Huron, then relax and celebrate their accomplishment with great food, music, and community.

@madeofmaure said afterwards “Another weekend of cycling fun at the Bluewater International GranFondo. I competed in the 50km & Dan the 100km.

Beyond the ride itself, B.I.G. is deeply committed to giving back. The event proudly supports  St. Joseph’s Hospice, and Bluewater Health’s Palliative Care Program. To date, more than $520,000 has been raised, with a strong emphasis on palliative care.

In the 12 weeks leading up to the event, B.I.G. hosts Midweek Training and Educational Rides on Wednesday evenings. These rides are designed for both newer and experienced cyclists and focus on group riding skills, road safety, and basic bike maintenance. Due to their popularity, registration is limited to 160 participants, and each rider receives a sponsored T-shirt along with additional benefits.

The Shelly Rastin Band performed live for participants after they finished in Mike Weir Park.

B.I.G. is also proud to continue hosting the Ontario First Responder Road Cycling Championships (Fire, Police, EMS). Competitors ride the 100 km B.I.G. route with three timed sections raced to determine the fastest male and female first responders, who will be crowned provincial champions.

As part of B.I.G. Bike Week, the event also features the B.I.G. Slow Roll, a free 10 km community ride open to all ages. This relaxed ride is dedicated to growing bicycle culture in the Sarnia–Lambton area, promoting cycling as both a healthy lifestyle choice and a way to strengthen the region’s identity as a welcoming cycling community.

Whether you’re chasing a personal challenge, enjoying a family ride, or simply soaking in the scenery, the Bluewater International Granfondo offers an unforgettable experience on two wheels.
