The Tour de Big Bear returns to Southern California this summer with one of the most anticipated alpine cycling weekends in the United States. From July 31 to August 2, 2026, Big Bear Lake once again becomes a high-altitude cycling hub, drawing riders from across the country to experience cool mountain air, sweeping lake vistas and some of the region’s most iconic climbs. Set at 7,000 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains, the event has earned its place as a cornerstone of the Gran Fondo calendar thanks to its mix of challenging routes, festival energy and flawless organisation.
The event has earned national acclaim as North America’s Favorite Gran Fondo in 2023 and a Top 10 U.S Gran Fondo since 2019, cementing its place as a must-ride summer classic. Big Bear Lake is one of the most accessible mountain cycling destinations for riders coming from Los Angeles, sitting just a couple of hours east of the city.
This year’s edition features four signature road distances designed to showcase the best of Big Bear’s terrain. The 25-mile ride offers a relaxed and scenic introduction to alpine cycling, while the 50-mile route adds elevation and panoramic valley views. The 70-mile course includes the legendary ascent to Onyx Summit, a climb that has become a rite of passage for Southern California cyclists. The 100-mile century stands as the event’s premier challenge, delivering more than 8,500 feet of climbing across a demanding high-altitude landscape that rewards endurance, pacing and grit. Every route begins and ends at Bear Mountain Resort, creating a lively base area filled with riders, families and spectators.
The festival atmosphere continues to grow each year, and 2026 brings an expanded lineup of free fun rides and community events. Riders can join the Poker Ride, a 20-mile casual lap around the lake where participants collect cards for prizes, or light up the night during the Glow Ride, a colourful celebration of costumes, lights and creativity with awards for the best dressed. Families can enjoy the Family Fun Ride, kids’ cycling activities, recovery rides and more, making the weekend a destination for riders of all ages. It’s a chance to bring the whole crew and create mountain memories that last.
Gravel riders have their own spotlight with the 25-mile Dirty Cub and 50-mile Dirty Bear, two mixed-surface adventures that wind through scenic fire roads and rolling forest terrain. These routes offer flowy, fast sections and just enough grit to satisfy riders who like a little dirt in their ride, adding a fresh dimension to the Tour de Big Bear’s growing off-road presence.

The Tour de Big Bear weekend also features a high-energy 50K Cross-Country MTB Race, giving riders a fast, fun and flowy mountain challenge on Big Bear’s signature terrain. This off-road event delivers dirt, speed and altitude in equal measure, making it a favourite for mountain bikers who want to push hard on forested singletrack and fire roads. The MTB race forms a key part of the event’s expanded off-road lineup, joining the gravel rides to offer riders even more ways to experience Big Bear’s rugged, scenic backcountry.

The Big Bear Cycling Expo serves as the weekend’s central gathering point at Bear Mountain Resort. Free and open to the public, the expo features more than 30 vendors, live music, fresh food, beer tastings, bike demos and a dedicated Kids Zone. It’s the perfect place to hang out, shop deals, grab a cold drink and soak up Big Bear’s cool summer weather, whether you’re riding, supporting or simply enjoying the mountain vibe.
With its combination of altitude, scenery, community energy and diverse ride options, Tour de Big Bear remains one of the most compelling summer cycling events in North America. Whether riders are chasing personal bests, tackling their first mountain century, exploring gravel routes or enjoying a weekend in the pines with friends and family, the 2026 edition promises an unforgettable celebration of cycling in the high country.
