2026 Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie Results: Kate Shewan and Reagan Mills Fastest
The 8th edition of the Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie rolled through Clare on Sunday, September 13, 2026, welcoming more than 540 riders, including 160 visiting cyclists from across Canada and abroad. This year’s event returned to the newly renovated Clare Veterans Centre in Saulnierville, offering a refreshed start/finish venue and a vibrant community atmosphere.
Cyclists enjoyed low-traffic inland roads, scenic lakes and rivers, and the iconic coastal stretch along beautiful Baie Sainte-Marie, passing towering Acadian churches and panoramic ocean views. Most participants tackled either the 128km Gran Fondo or 67km Medio Fondo, while nearly 70 riders took on the shorter 35km Piccolo Fondo.
The Gran Fondo saw Reagan Mills of Halifax take the overall win in 3:25:57, followed closely by Andrew Perkins of Hectanooga and Matthew Kamermans of Dartmouth.
On the women’s side, Kate Shewan of Halifax was fastest in 4:14:19, with Melissa Mountain and Amanda Jakeman completing the top three.
The Medio Fondo men’s podium featured Hubert Surette of Tusket in first in 1:26:38, ahead of Reynald Hache and Leroy Bennett.
For the women, Bella Willett of Porters Lake led the field in 2:23:02, followed by Carole Leblanc and Catherine Campbell.
In the Piccolo Fondo, Peter McGregor of Moncton claimed the men’s win in 1:18:17, with Michel Doucet and Paula Scott rounding out the top three.
For the women, Paula Scott of Quispamsis was fastest I 1:27:11, ahead of Michele Young and Evelien Vanderkloet.
As always, the post-ride meal was the highlight! Riders chose between a vegetarian option, BBQ pork, or the event’s signature offering — fresh lobster in the shell, a defining tradition of the Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie experience.
