Viviani Outsprints Sagan to take Second Stage Win at the Tour de Suisse

Italian road-race champion Elia Viviani outsprinted three times world champion Peter Sagan to win stage five of the Tour de Suisse

The second straight win for the Deceuninck-Quick Step sprinter, who cut the last corner to come round Sagan on the uphill cobbled climb at the end of a 177km run into Einsiedeln.

Peter Sagan, wearing the yellow jersey extended his lead over second placed Australian Michael Matthews by four seconds.

Sagan congratulated Viviani and said "Deceuninck-Quick Step didn't do anything the whole day, but yeah, it was a good move".

Viviani celbrated his seventh stage win of the season, "The winning move came in the lead out, we didn't do much work, we can't take long-range wins, we count on grabbing the win at the end," he explained.

"There'll be some suffering next" as Viviani looked forward to the three mountainous stages and the final time-trial this weekend coming.

"Then two weeks training before the Tour de France, I think I'll be ready," he smiled.

Thursday's sixth stage heads 120.2km east from Einsiedeln crossing the Obersee lake before a challenging 8.5km climb to a summit finish at Flumserberg.

Friday's Queen stage has been re-roued as the Sustenpass remains closed. The queen stage of the 83rd Tour de Suisse eill be contested on an alternative route on Sunday. This alternative course is equal to the original course in terms of toughnesss with the climsb of the Nufenen, Gotthard and Furka passes. The stage distance is 101.5 kilometers with a total of 3,063 vertical meters. The start in Ulrichen is scheduled for Sunday, 23rd of June
