Greg LeMond advises Egan Bernal not to work for Chris Froome at the 2020 Tour
American Tour de France champion Greg LeMond has stated that Egan Bernal should focus on winning the Tour de France, despite team mate Chris Froome
Lemond made his comments known after hearing that reigning champion of the Tour de France, Egan Bernal may be required to ride four times Tour de France Chris Froome in July by Team Ineos.
Lemond told the cycling press "It will be a loss for your career and for your life. Don't work for Chris Froome. I'm sorry, Froome is at the end of his career and Bernal is at the start, so he should not give anything to anyone. He is stronger than Chris."
"Please, he is not your friend and never will be." Lemond continued.
Chris Froome is currently recovering from surgery to remove metalwork from his hip and elbow as he continues his recovery from a serious crash which sidelined him from this year’s Tour de France.
Egan Bernal clinched victory in the 2019 Tour de France defending his lead in the penultimate stage as Vincenzo Nibali clinched the stage win.
With the sun setting behind the Arc de Triomphe, the 22-year-old Ineos rider completed the 21 stage, 3,409km marathon around France 1min 10sec ahead of 2018 champion and teammate Geraint Thomas, who came second overall, shook his hand as they crossed the finish line.
