Asgreen wins Time Trial as Hayter remains race leader despite crash
Kasper Asgreen won the fourth stage of the Volta ao Algarve, an individual time trial of 20 kilometers with start and finish in Lagoa
The Deceuninck–Quick-Step rider, this year’s winner at Tour of Flanders, finished with a time of 23’52” and held Portuguese Rafael Reis 3 seconds behind him. Benjamin Thomas came in third.
General classification leader Ethan Hayter crashed in a corner, but the Ineos Grenadiers rider still managed to keep the yellow leader’s jersey. The 22-year-old was still good for the ninth fastest time more than a minute behind Asgreen.
Sunday is the final stage through hilly countryside from Albufeira to Malhão over 170 kilometers. Hayter will try to defend a 12-second lead over Portuguese João Rodrigues, while Asgreen is 21 seconds behind Hayter.
