39th Edition of Vuelta San Juan will kickstart 2022 Racing Season

Evenepoel, Carapaz, Ganna, Viviani, Sagan and Froome confirmed for 8 day stage race around San Juan in Argentina in the new year

39th Edition of Vuelta San Juan will kickstart 2022 Racing Season

Peter Sagan, triple world champion, was the start guest recently at the gala night held La Boca, Federal Capital recently who has confirmed his participation.

Current champion Remco Evenepoel will lead Belgium's Deceuninck – Quick Step as he defend's his title. He debuted professionally in 2019 at the race.

Top Italian sprinters Filippo Ganna and Elia Viviani return to San Juan. Ganna having taken part on three ocassions and Viviani once before in 2027.

Ecuadorian superstar Richard Carapaz  who rides Ineos Grenadiers is also taking part. Carapaz won the 2019 Giro d'Italia and a gold medal in the road race at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Chris Froome leader of the Israel Start-Up has confirmed his participation, Froome will be looking to build on his race form ahead of a busy season of racing.

Stage 1 - Sunday, January 30, 2022

Mileage: 147 KM with start and finish at the Bicentennial Theater:

The concentration of the start will be at the doors of the Bicentennial Theater. The platoon will be on José Ignacio de la Roza Avenue, under the bridge. From there they will depart by the same road and a turn will be made in the Plaza 25 de Mayo of the Sanjuanina Capital, leaving by Mendoza street until Av. De Circunvalación. From there you will go to Route 20 to embark on a journey to the Difunta Correa area, to resume along the same Route 20. It is worth clarifying that in Caucete, for the round trip, cyclists will do it by Paula Albarracín de Sarmiento street.

Return to Avenida de Circunvalación exits by Route 40 to Calle 5, resumes by Mendoza Street, turns on republic of Lebanon to Hipolito Yirigoyen. Then you will turn right onto Ignacio de la Roza Street, until you reach the Bicentennial Theater.

Stage 2 - Monday, January 31, 2022

Mileage: 196 KM with start at the San Juan Villicum Circuit and arrival in Barreal, Calingasta

The race will start at the San Juan Villicum Circuit and will travel along Route 40 to the North, in Talacasto turn left to go to National Route 149 by which you will start your way to the town of Calingasta, Tamberías and until you reach the main square of Barreal.

Stage 3 - Tuesday, February 1, 2022

Mileage: 15 KM Individual Time Trial with start in the municipality of Ullum and arrival in Punta Negra.

As in 2020, the individual time trial will begin in the municipal square of Ullum and will end at the Embarcadero de Punta Negra.

Stage 4 (Wednesday, February 2, 2022)

Mileage: 214 KM Valle Fértil / Jáchal

Unlike previous editions, Valle Fértil and Jáchal will be linked through Route 150, but in this case the start will take place in San Agustín de Valle Fértil with arrival in San José de Jáchal after disputing 214 kilometers.

Stage 5 - Thursday, February 3, 2022

Mileage: 138.7 KM Start and finish at the San Juan del Bicentenario Stadium.

It will start on Route 40 in front of the San Juan del Bicentenario Stadium. They will head north to Avenida de Circunvalación turning left to Avenida Ignacio de la Roza, turn west to Calle Rastreador Calivar. They will travel by Rastreador Calivar to Av. Libertador. Then, they will turn left passing through Marquesado, reaching Zonda, where they will make a turn and resume along the same road. They will arrive at Av. From Circunvalación, heading to Route 20, to Las Chacritas where they will turn right towards 9 de Julio, returning to Calle 11 towards Villa Aberastain Pocito where they will make a turn, returning to Route 40 until the arrival of the San Juan del Bicentenario Stadium.

Stage 6 - Friday, February 4, 2022

Mileage: 176 KM Calle San Martín to Alto del Colorado

It will start in the municipality of San Martín where they will make the classic small circuit that includes Sarmiento, Eva Perón National Street, they will turn on Cruz Godoy street right until they turn left on Sarmiento street. Again you will pass through the municipality, until Calle Nacional to turn right towards Angaco. From there, they will travel to Aguilera Street where they will make the roundabout to splice with Sarmiento Street to Route 40 to undertake a trip to Alto del Colorado.

Stage 7 - Saturday 5 February 2022

Mileage: 175 KM Villicum

It will start and end at the Villicum Circuit. You will leave the Circuit by Route 40 to the South, until you reach Benavides Street turning right until Mendoza Street. The platoon will travel along Mendoza Street to Centenario. By Centenario they will turn towards Salta street to turn left again until Av. From Circunvalación where you will head east and leave by Route 20 to Zapata Street, in the department 9 de Julio. In Zapata street you will turn right passing through the municipality 9 de Julio, and continue along diagonal San Martín, until 11th street. On Calle 11 you will turn right until Ruta 40.

On Route 40 you will turn right to Calle 14, turn right to Calle Aberastain. In Aberastain street until 11th street and leaves by Route 40 until Av. From Circunvalación, to leave Circunvalación by Av. Rawson and junction with Route 40 until the Villicum Circuit.

Stage 8 - Sunday, February 6, 2022

Mileage: 146 KM Av. Circunvalación.

To finish the triumphal walk, 9 turns will be made to the Avenida de Circunvalación starting and ending in Mendoza Sur Street, to total the 146 kilometers that will end the 39th edition of the race.
