Quinn Simmons attacks in the last km to win stage 3
Quinn Simmons (Trek-Segafredo) attacked in the closing km to win stage 3 of Vuelta a San Juan, much to the surprise of the sprinters teams
It was a hot, windy and flat stage until it approached the Autodrómo de Villicum circuit, when the riders enjoyed some gentle climbing. 7 riders from local teams formed a breakaway. Eventually, it was fully caught within 30 kilometers to the finish.
The riders faced another hot stage, experiencing temperatures around 36 °C degrees. The peloton controlled the stage until the last 5km where Simone Bevilacqua (Eolo-Kometa) attacked, and a late crash happened. The ride was neutralized but ibnthe last kilometer Quinn Simmons made a bold attack, with Maximiliano Richeze trying to go with him.
The Trek-Segafredo rider managed to repeat Zdenek Stybar, who won here in 2020. He took the stage ahead of Maximiliano Richeze (Argentina National Team) and Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) who was fastest from the peloton. Bennett keeps the overall race lead.
