The course led the professionals with start and finish in Lagoa over 24.4 kilometers. The Swiss was unbeatable. Behind him, Frenchman Remi Cavagna (Soudal – Quick-Step) and Italian Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) completed the top 3 on the day. The two were four and ten seconds behind, respectively.

It was also close in the fight for overall victory. Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) moved up seven places to second place with his good time trial, but could not prevent the success of Colombian Daniel Martinez (Ineos Grenadiers). Thus, the British team celebrates a double victory.

Joao Almeida (UAE) will feel like the loser of the day. The Portuguese went into the time trial as third overall and was considered the favourite. Now he has to settle for sixth place, the place behind the day's winner Stefan Küng (Groupama – FDJ).

Ilan van Wilder (Soudal – Quick-Step) will be on the podium alongside the two Ineos Grenadiers pros. The Belgian was already celebrating on the second stage, but was then beaten by millimetres. Now he has to settle for third place in the overall standings.
