Granfondo Coimbra Region opens UCI European Granfondo season

The first event in Europe in the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Series took place this weekend in Portugal with over 1500 participants

The 20.2km time trial along the river on a back-and-forth loop is flat and fast forward.  305 riders have signed up representing 14 different countries.

Local countryman Pedro Pinheiro (BUSSOLA BTT/PEIXOVAR) of Portugal was fastest in a time of 26:17 ahead of Hedler Loureiro (26:21) in second and Joao Viegas (26:54) in third place.

Dane Line Ostergaard was fastest for the women in 31:18 ahead of local country women Patricia Rosa (32:07) in second and Liliana Jeses (32:13) in third place.

On Sunday, the 148km Granfondo and 106km Mediofondo starts from the nearby town of Montemor-o-Velho with four catehgorized climbs with 1548m and 956m of climbing,

1200 riders have signed up for the fondos from 28 different nations.
