On October 11 and 12, 2025, South Limburg will be the stage for the 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships. The world’s best gravel cyclists will gather for this unique event, which will take place on Dutch soil for the very first time
On 11 and 12 October 2025, South Limburg will be the scene of the 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships. The best gravel riders in the world gather for this unique event, which takes place on Dutch soil for the first time. With a start in Beek, a beautiful gravel route through Beekdaelen and a spectacular finish on the Green Carpet in Maastricht, the Province of Limburg is once again putting itself on the international map as a leading cycling region.
The organization is in the hands of Golazo, in close cooperation with the UCI, the Province of Limburg, the municipalities of Beek, Beekdaelen and Maastricht, and the KNWU. With 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships, South Limburg will have the opportunity to link its rich cycling tradition to an innovative, fast-growing discipline within the sport.
A unique and challenging course
The course takes the riders over a mix of gravel strips, forest paths, country roads and climbs in connection with the hilly landscape of South Limburg. Both the elite riders (m/f) and qualified amateurs participate in this championship. Qualification is possible through the international UCI Gravel World Series, including the Marly Grav Race 2025 in Valkenburg last May 11.
Gravel: the fast-growing discipline in cycling
The UCI Gravel World Championships is a relatively new championship, with the first edition only in 2022. The discipline combines elements of road cycling, cyclocross and mountain biking, and is rapidly gaining popularity. The Netherlands is already very successful in this sport: at the previous edition, between Halle and Leuven in Flanders, Mathieu van der Poel and Marianne Vos, among others, were crowned world champions.
"The 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships is a unique opportunity for Limburg. It brings world-class top sport to our province, stimulates recreational sport and gives a powerful boost to the local economy. In this way, we strengthen the international image of Limburg as a sporty and hospitable region."
Alderman for sports of the municipality of Beek, Raymond Dirx:
"Where better than in Beek can this world championship start? With sports estate De Haamen we are a real sports municipality. Moreover, Beek is located on the edge of the Heuvelland, the beautiful and rolling South Limburg landscape, which offers cycling enthusiasts plenty of challenge and fun all year round. We would like to welcome the 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships to Beek!"
Alderman for Sport of Beekdaelen, Jeannette Quadvlieg:
"As a green, rural municipality, we are committed to quality of life, exercise and the experience of the landscape. The Gravel World Championships fit in with our course: a landscape to cherish and experience – with routes that also cross Beekdaelen. For us, the landscape is more than a backdrop; it is alive. The organization of the 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships will also have an explicit eye for this."
Alderman for Sport of Maastricht, Hubert Mackus:
"With the finish on the new Green Carpet of Maastricht, we give this 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships a wonderful finale. We are proud to be part of an event that brings sport, nature and tourism together so beautifully and connects our unique city and region in a natural way."
Managing Director of Golazo Netherlands, Wilbert Lek:
"Golazo is extremely proud to host the 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships in beautiful South Limburg. In the Netherlands, Golazo has built up a strong reputation as an organizer of world-class running competitions, such as the NN Marathon Rotterdam and various recreational tours. With our global expertise in gravel, including as administrator of the UCI Gravel World Series on behalf of the UCI and organizer of the 2024 UCI Bolero Gravel World Championships in Flanders, we are excited to bring international top cycling to the Netherlands. Golazo will also organize the UEC Cyclo-cross European Championships in Zeddam in 2026."
KNWU director, Maurice Leeser:
"It is fantastic that the Netherlands can organize the 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships. As KNWU, we strongly believe in the growth of gravel as a fully-fledged discipline within cycling. With the knowledge, infrastructure and commitment of South Limburg, we can create a top-level world championship that our riders – and the public – will be proud of."
Head of Marketing & Policy Bolero, Thomas van Berchem:
"After the European Gravel Championships in 2023 and the Gravel World Championships in Leuven in 2024, we as Bolero are delighted to be the main sponsor of the 2025 Bolero UCI Gravel World Championships that will take place in the heart of Europe again. We feel a strong connection to Gravel: a fast-growing sport and accessible to both amateurs and professionals. This is just like Bolero: a fast-growing brand that makes the stock market accessible to both starting and more experienced investors. We are looking forward to a weekend full of international top sport, inspiration and community."
