France Prevails as Prevot and Drechou Take UCI Wish One Millau Gran Causses Titles
The 4th edition of the UCI Gravel World Series kicked off in Millau under challenging weather conditions, but the sun broke through to illuminate an exhilarating day of racing
Cyclists from around the globe gathered to navigate a demanding 130KM course, showcasing the stunning landscapes of the Causses region, which included rugged roads, rolling tracks, and the unique terrains of the Larzac military camp.
The elite men's race unfolded with an aggressive pace from the start, gradually narrowing the field to a fierce group of five riders. As they entered the military camp of Larzac, Hugo Drechou (FRA), Daan Grosemans (BEL), David Lozano (ESP), Petr Vakoc (CZE), and Dorian Godon (FRA) battled for supremacy. In a nail-biting finish, Godon outpaced Vakoc to claim victory, while Drechou surged ahead of Grosemans to secure third place, finishing 23 seconds behind the leaders.
In the women's elite category, Axelle Dubau Prevot (FRA) demonstrated remarkable strength and strategy. From the first climb, she established a commanding lead, leaving behind formidable competitors Cassia Boglio (AUS) and Carolin Schiff (GER). Prevot's relentless pace allowed her to cross the finish line a staggering six minutes ahead of Boglio, with Schiff trailing by over ten minutes.
"This race was a true test of endurance and skill," said Hugo Drechou after the race. "The conditions were tough, but the support from the fans and the breathtaking scenery made it all worth it. I’m proud of my performance and the camaraderie we shared out there."
Axelle Dubau Prevot echoed similar sentiments, stating, "I knew I had to push hard right from the start. The climbs were challenging, but I felt strong and focused. Winning today is a dream come true, and I’m thrilled to represent France on this prestigious stage."
