Prince George is the most diverse one-day race you’ll ever experience. It is a monumental race from the dark side of the Swartberg Mountain Range at the Northern slopes in the Great Karoo through the Klein Karoo region over the Montagu Pass with dense forest plantation and a finish at the coast in George. The vast landscapes and diverse overload of this non-technical routes are the perfect race for all mountain and gravel bike enthusiasts, with ample opportunity to appreciate the unique surroundings you’ll be exposed to.

The 100 mile race begins in the charming town of Prince Albert, nestled in the heart of the Great Karoo at the base of the majestic Swartberg Mountain range. The challenging course starts with a 20km climb from the Northern side of the Swartberg Mountain, the highest mountain range in the Western Cape with a peak elevation of nearly 3000m. The Swartberg Mountain Range is a National Monument and boasts a UNESCO World Heritage site status, showcasing an unusual geology, including the famous Wall of Fire cliff face. After conquering the mighty Swartberg, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking descent, offering panoramic views over the Klein Karoo, before reaching the first water point at Kobus se Gat. The course then winds through the Klein Karoo, showcasing iconic destinations such as Matjiesvlei, Wildehondekloof,and Grundheim, allowing you to soak up the picturesque landscapes of the region.

The halfway mark of the race is located at Highgate Ostrich Show Farm, providing a well-deserved break and an opportunity to refuel before continuing the journey. The route will take you through beautiful farmland and rolling hills towards your third water point at Zebra, before you make your way towards Herold, a small village nestled in the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains and your last water point.


Another National Monument awaits as you tackle the spectacular Montague Pass and fly your way down a steep descent through picturesque forest plantations on contouring pathways. This section of the route is a fast and flowing descent, with sweeping corners and long straightaways that will put your skills to the test. Be sure to stay focused and alert, as the terrain can be quite technical in places.


As you approach George, you’ll be greeted by a festive atmosphere as fellow riders, spectators, and supporters come together to celebrate the end of the race.
