Distances: 55 miles
Difficulty: Moderate terrain with rolling short steep hills or moderate, sustained climbs
Limited to: 60 Participants

Gravelpalooza is our version of the ultimate mixed-surface experience. It's a combination of all the best events we've ridden, just with our own flavor.

A bit of pavement, a bunch of dirt, and so much climbing make up an impressively challenging 55-mile loop around Santa Clarita Valley.

Because Gravelpalooza is about maximizing your fun-to-pain ratio there will be a post-ride party with food, drinks, and whatever else happens when cracked lycra-clad people get together.

We are forced to limit the number of riders due to Forestry Service regulations, and only 60 spots will be up for grabs in registration. and our guess is those spots will fill up rather quickly. Registration info will be released soon!

Details

When & Where: Sunday, October 25th. The ride will be held in Santa Clarita Valley. Exact location and start time will be provided to registered riders.

The Route: The final route won't be announced until just days before the ride, but plan on 55 miles and 7,000 feet of climbing with some very challenging dirt sections (climbing and descending) through Santa Clarita backcountry. This isn't a ride for those lacking confidence in their fitness and skill level! Course markings will be minimal, but a route sheet will be provided at the start. A route file will also be available for download to your GPS device. There will be two places for water/food along the way. Even though it's not a race, we will have prizes up for grabs that can be won in rather un-conventional ways. You'll see.

The Bike: Much of the dirt sections are quite rough, like mountain bike rough, while the pavement sections are, of course, smooth. This creates a rather perplexing equipment dilemma, and begs the question, what's the best bike for Gravelpalooza? We'll let you in on a little secret, it's not a road bike. Gravel, cyclocross, or mountain bike would all do the trick. Oh, and gearing? You're going to need a lot of it. Think steep pitches.
