2026 Paris–Nice route revealed in Versailles

The 2026 Paris–Nice blends tradition with innovation: a historic opening stage, a rare team time trial, and a revamped finale. With Jorgenson defending and a deep field of challengers, it promises to be one of the most strategically important “Race to the Sun” editions in recent years.

2026 Paris–Nice route revealed in Versailles

The 2026 Paris–Nice will run from March 8–15, 2026, covering 1,245 km with 16,460 m of elevation gain. It starts in Achères (northwest of Paris) and finishes in Nice, featuring a 23.5 km team time trial and 27 classified climbs.

Stage Highlights

- Stage 1 (Achères → Carrières-sous-Poissy): 171.2 km tribute to the historic Polymultipliée de Chanteloup race. Includes two laps of the Côte de Chanteloup-les-Vignes (1.1 km at 8.3%). Puncheurs and Classics specialists could shine here.
- Stage 2 (Épône → Montargis): Crosses the Gâtinais plains, exposed to crosswinds, likely a sprinters’ stage.
- Stage 4: 23.5 km team time trial — a rare inclusion in Paris–Nice, seen as a key pre-Tour de France test.
- Final Weekend:
- Stage 7: Starts on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
- Stage 8: Finishes at the Riviera stadium, breaking tradition due to municipal elections.

Contenders

Defending Champion is Matteo Jorgenson (Visma Lease a Bike), winner in 2024 and 2025. Contenders are Simon Yates, João Almeida, Juan Ayuso, Cian Uijtdebroeks, Mattias Skjelmose, plus French hopes Kévin Vauquelin, Lenny Martinez, and David Gaudu.

The team time trial and summit finish make this edition a vital Tour de France preparation race, testing both collective strength and climbing form. Wind & Crosswinds in Early stages across plains could split the peloton. 27 climbs ensure GC riders must be sharp from day one. With the finish at the Riviera stadium instead of the Promenade des Anglais, tactics may differ from tradition.
