Young Slovakian Tadej Pogacar wins the 2019 AMGEN Tour of California

Tadej Pogacar from UAE Team Emirates held on in the final stage to win overall, as Cees Bol from Team Sunweb outsprinted Peter Sagan in the final sprint in Pasadena

It was thankfully a shorter day for the pro peloton, one that saw poor old Mark Cavendish climb off early on, still not feeling well.

A big breakaway went away containing; Diego Rosa (Team Ineos), Lawson Craddock (EF Education First), Lennard Hofstede and Neilson Powless (Team Jumbo-Visma), Rui Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates), Peter Stetina (Trek-Segafredo), Rémi Cavagna (Deceuninck-QuickStep), Davide Ballerini (Astana Pro Team), Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe), Michael Storer (Team Sunweb), Alex Hoehn (USA National Team).

Education First launched an attack that saw 14 riders go clear from the peloton which included Sergio Higuita,  Pogacar, isloated from his UAE Team Emirates, followed.

George Bennett was the next to launch an attack. Up front the chase group caught the breakaway.

With 26 miles to go, Chachmann, Cavagna and Hofstede went on the attack but the remining peloton were only 50 seconds behind.

Kasper Asgreen took 3 seconds sprint bonus on the first lap, but was unable to stay away.

On the second of the final three laps it was all back together, almost guaranteeing Tadej Pogacar the race winner overall as the fast men duked it out.

In the sprint it was Cees Bol from Team Sunweb who outsprinted as fast cating Peter Sagan and Jasper Philipsen third.

In the women's race Elisa Balsamo won the final sprint, with Anna van Der Breggen winning the 2019 Women's AMGEN Tour of California, with many race fans wanting to see the women's race covered live as much as the men's.

It's been a epic race this year, with some of the hardest stages and Mount Baldy did not disappoint!
