Amy VanTassel and Felipe Nystrom fastest at 2026 Takelma Gravel Grinder

Felipe Nystrom and Amy VanTassel delivered the standout performances at the 2026 Takelma Gravel Grinder, taking the men’s and women’s titles on a course that once again began inside Seven Feathers Casino Resort before rolling out toward Canyonville and the long gravel stretches of Tiller Trail Highway. Riders passed ranchland along the South Umpqua River before tackling the decisive KOM climb, a brutal 9% average gradient that opened into the sweeping valley views of Days Creek.
 
Nystrom, racing for Hagens Berman Seattle, controlled the men’s race from the climb onward, claiming his second consecutive Takelma title in 2:48:39. Behind him, Austen Davis improved on last year’s third place to take second in 2:52:14, while Jonathan Myers of Team S&M secured third in 3:00:18 after holding off a tight chase group over the final miles.
 
The women’s race produced one of the closest finishes in event history. Amy VanTassel crossed the line in 3:41:11, just twenty-one seconds ahead of last year’s winner Jennifer Slawta of Team Landshark, who nevertheless claimed the QOM title with a 15:56.8 ascent. Christina Fitzmaurice completed the women’s podium in 4:04:23, riding steadily through the steep gravel sectors to secure third.
 
On the climbs, Nystrom added to his victory with the KOM award in 12:11.9, while Slawta’s QOM performance highlighted her continued dominance on the uphill segments. Riders were supported throughout by aid stations, bike techs, and SAG vehicles, before finishing at the Umpqua Wine Festival where they washed off the dust and celebrated with food and drinks from the Seven Feathers food truck.
 
In the team competition, Perthes Awareness Cycling Team — Rick Metz, Michael Metz, and Jeffrey Cordell — posted the fastest combined time, finishing ahead of Team Oregon p/b Rodda Paint.
