Remco Evenpoel wins Liège-Bastogne-Liège again after Playbook attack

Evenpoel attacks at the top of La Redoute in a playbook attack that saw him solo 29 kms to the finish line ahead of the Giro d'Italia

The fourth Monument of the season covered 258 kilometres through the hilly landscape of the Ardennes. From Liège, the route was relatively flat to the turnaround point, which came after 90 kilometres in the saddle. On the way back to Liège, it became much tougher with ten of the race's eleven short yet steep climbs.

Due to the tempo work in part by team's including BORA - hansgrohe and Quick Step the lead of the early break started to reduce gradually and with 85km to go, the Côte de Wanne provided the first selection in the peloton.

With 33km to go at the top of La Redoute,  Evenepoel attacked, and only Thomas Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers) could follow.

With the chasing peloton racing full gas up Cornemont, and the race is being decided, Evenepoel attacked Pidcock, not wanting to contest a sprint with him, he soloe'd away.

He overtook the last of the leaders and at the bottom of the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons had a lead of over 1m 30s to various chasing groups.

Evenepoel took the win, his second title at Liège-Bastonge-Liège in a row in the rainbow jersey.
