UCI Gran Fondo World Series event scores new participants' record

The Granfondo Golfe de Saint Tropez returns the UCI Gran Fondo World Series to France after Albi organized the unique French qualifier in the past two years.

The iconic city of Saint Tropez in the south of France was already the qualifier in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

With start and finish in between the yachts in the harbor, riders lefy for the 162km with climbs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The first difficulty was the Col du Canadel, followed by the Col du Babaou and the highest climb towards Notre Dame des Anges. The final kilometer of the run into Gassin was especially hard.

Organizers kept the long distance of 162 km as the official qualifier distance for all age groups as the shorter 113km route had some roadworks so riders had to walk a small distance.

Over 1400 participants took part which mean't a new participants' record and a growth of 20-25% in relation to the previous edition.
