Severino and Quintero take victory at 2025 UCI Granfondo Colombia in Bogota

More than 1,500 riders from across Colombia and abroad tackled a challenging 128-kilometer course around the Embalse de Tominó on Sunday as Bogotá hosted the first-ever UCI Granfondo Colombia. High-altitude climbs topping 3,000 meters and a fast, tactical finish produced dramatic sprints in both the men’s and women’s races, with Camilo Camacho Quintero and Camila Cortés Severino taking the overall victories.

Quintero claimed the men’s title in a thrilling photo-finish sprint, crossing the line in 3:02:12 after a punishing ride through mountainous terrain. Juan Sebastián Rocha Saavedra edged in second at 3:02:33, while Sebastián Molina took third at 3:02:34. The tightly bunched finish was a testament to the riders’ endurance at extreme elevation and to the tactical chess match that unfolded over the closing kilometers.

The women’s field produced an equally tense finale. Camila Cortés Severino and a select group including junior standout Sara Alejandra Arias Marino, Catalina Balaguera, Andrea Catillo and Gina Samantha Martínez Wilches contested the sprint to the line. Cortés Severino surged ahead in the final meters to take the win, with Arias Marino and Balaguera close behind. The result highlighted both the strength of Colombia’s elite women racers and the emergence of promising young talent on the national and international stage.

“The course tested every rider — the climbs, the altitude, the weather,” said Andrés Morales, Race Director for UCI Granfondo Colombia. “To see athletes deliver such fast, tactical finishes after more than three hours of racing is remarkable. This inaugural event cements Bogotá as a world-class host for Granfondo competition and gives Colombian riders a proud stage to shine.”

Organized under UCI Gran Fondo World Series regulations, the Bogotá edition served as a qualifying and competitive platform in the lead-up to future world championship events. The route began near the capital, looped approximately 60 kilometers north around the Embalse de Tominó, then returned to a city finish that offered spectators dramatic views of the race finale. Riders faced lung-busting clibs and rapidly changing conditions that punished the unprepared and rewarded disciplined teams and well-timed attacks.

Hector Herrera Almonacid (M60-64) won the shorter 80km medio fondo in a time of 2:10:12.

Cyclists finishing in the Top 25% of their UCI age/gender category automatically qualified for the world championships taking place in Niseko, Japan next September.
