2026 UCI Gran Fondo Matildica Results: Virginia Becchetti and Simone Impellizzeri take Victory

The 2026 UCI Gran Fondo Matildica marked a powerful start to the European qualifying calendar for next year’s UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Haute-Savoie. Under warm late-summer skies, riders from across Italy and beyond descended on Reggio Emilia for one of the country’s longest-running mass-participation races — an event steeped in tradition since its first edition in 1973.

The historic streets and rolling countryside around the city produced fast racing across both the Granfondo and Mediofondo distances, with two standout Italian riders claiming the day’s top honours.

The men’s Granfondo came down to a razor-tight sprint among three riders who had been inseparable for the final kilometres. Simone Impellizzeri (Team Da-Tor / ISB) timed his effort perfectly, edging out Patrick Facchini and Andrea Pisetta, all three credited with virtually identical finishing times.

Impellizzeri’s victory continues a steady upward trend in his Gran Fondo results. After podium finishes at Matildica in 2025 and Nove Colli earlier this year, he finally converted consistency into a major win — a statement performance at the opening qualifier of the season.

In the women’s Granfondo, Virginia Becchetti (A.S.D. Pedale Rosa) delivered a decisive solo victory. Breaking clear on the final climbs, she opened a gap of more than a minute over Michela Gorini, with Carmen Mancini completing the podium.

Becchetti has been one of Italy’s most reliable Gran Fondo performers over the past two seasons, and her Matildica triumph adds another highlight to a year already filled with strong results.

The shorter Mediofondo distance produced its own drama. Gianluca Randazzo (Vitam-In CMF A.S.D.) held off Matteo Foppiano by just two seconds in a tense atwo-man battle to the line.

In the women’s Mediofondo, Anna Cadorin (Team Staweld Buzzolan) finally claimed a long-awaited Matildica victory after multiple top-five finishes in previous editions. Her winning margin — more than five minutes — underscored her dominance on the day.

Road to Haute-Savoie Begins

As always, Matildica served as a crucial gateway to the 2027 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. The top 25% of riders in each age category earned their qualification slots, with the next European opportunity arriving at Tre Valli Varesine in early October.
