Holly Harris and Brendan Johnston fastest and the 2026 UCI Devils Cardigan Gravel Race

The 2026 UCI Devils Cardigan Gravel Race delivered a brutal, breathtaking day of racing across the wild north-east of Tasmania, where steep climbs, rugged gravel and relentless gradients carved the field into pieces.

With 2300 metres of elevation packed into just 106 kilometres, the course demanded resilience, precision and courage from every rider who rolled off the start line. Mutual Valley, Ralph Falls and the final ascent toward Mt Albert Road formed the backbone of the suffering, each climb stripping away contenders until only the strongest remained.

On a day defined by grit, Brendan Johnston rose above the chaos to claim the men’s title with a commanding performance. Johnston set the tone early, riding with trademark efficiency before unleashing the decisive power that carried him clear of the field. Behind him, Harry Leask and Harry Bebbington fought to limit their losses, but Johnston’s pace on the final climbs proved untouchable as he stormed home in 3:22:49 to secure victory.

In the women’s race, Holly Harris delivered an equally emphatic ride, conquering the course in 4:15:44 after a fierce battle with Michaela Rogan. The pair were inseparable for much of the day, matching each other pedal stroke for pedal stroke across the major climbs. Harris ultimately found the extra edge she needed in the final run toward Derby, holding off Rogan by less than a second in one of the tightest finishes the event has seen. Flora Johnson completed the podium after a strong and consistent ride across all sectors.
