Farm to Fork Fondo – Maine Celebrates Farms, Food, Bicycles and Open Space in Vacationland

Farm to Fork Fondo – Maine, August 27-28, 2016

FREEPORT, Maine – Wrenegade Sports introduced this week Farm to Fork Fondo – Maine, a mass- participation cycling event to be held at Wolfe’s Neck Farm in Freeport over the August 27-28, 2016, weekend. Farm to Fork Fondo - Maine will highlight the region’s vibrant farm-to-table movement withmid-ride aid stations hosted by local farms with treats from the farm, a post-ride Maine lobster bake and farm to fork barbecue; and a pre-ride dinner in the Wolfe’s Neck Farm Mallet Barn. Farm to Fork Fondo – Maine offers bicycle rides and activities for people of all ages and all abilities.

“We could not be more excited to bring the Farm to Fork Fondo series to Maine next summer,” said Wrenegade Sports principal Tyler Wren, who organizes similar events in Vermont, Hudson Valley and Pennsylvania Dutch country. “This area of Maine has the perfect combination of beautiful farmland, proud rural communities and an exciting story to tell that allows us to fulfill our mission of creating a unique and exciting experience that highlights and supports the symbiotic relationship between cyclists, famers and open space.”

Farm to Fork Fondo – Maine is capped at 450 participants and is expected to sell out. Each of the other events in the Farm to Fork Fondo series has drawn participants from more than twenty states, with a similar broad demographic expected in Maine. “When I learned about the opportunity to bring the Farm to Fork Fondo to Maine, I thought this program is such a natural fit for our beautiful state,” said Elissa English, Director of Sales & Marketing for the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau. “A national cycling event, with an international professional cyclist presence that showcases the passion in our farm to table culture. Our farmland provides such a beautiful, natural backdrop for outdoor sporting. This is an amazing addition to our 2016 calendar of events in Southern Maine!”

Farm to Fork Fondo – Maine weekend activities also include: a bicycle skills clinics for riders of all abilities led by the Colavita | Bianchi Professional Cycling Team; a talk on the local agriculture; local and cycling industry vendors; more than $10,000 in raffle prizes; live music; Kids' Mini-Fondo;farm tours; and more. All activities are hosted by Wolfe’s Neck Farm in Freeport, Maine.

Farm to Fork Fondo – Maine will benefit local farms and charitable organizations via the innovative New Holland Volunteer Competition. Volunteers filling jobs such as staffing aid stations and marshaling intersections will be organized into teams each representing different local farms or charitable farm organizations. With their support and creativity, these teams will compete for participants' votes, and will all win cash donations for the farms and organizations they represent.
