Fernando Gaviria wins opening Vuelta San Juan Stage
Chaos as some riders were directed off route in the final Sprint
The peloton spent most of the day chasing a breakaway of five with Leonardo Rodriguez, Franco Lopez, Ruben Ramos, Gaston Javier and Pedro Gonzalez. The escape group was later joined by another few riders but all were caught in the last kilometers and a final sprint followed.
Tom Boonen led out the final sprint for Quickstep-Floors team mate Gaviria. Elia Viviani, for Italy, was glued to Gavira's wheel, but failed to come round him in the closing metres.
Some riders were led the wrong way, jumping barriers and running over grass areas with their bikes to get back on course.
